What is the P.R.E.P. Optional program?

PREP Optional (PREP Op) - The PREP is an abbreviation for Presentation, Rhythm, Execution and Poise
- Athletes who love gymnastics but want more.
- Athletes who want to participate in club programs but are not competitive at Level 7/8 or who do not wish to commit to Level 7/8 training hours.
- High School Athletes who wish to prepare for their HS team or to prepare for level 7.
- Athletes who have "retired" from competing in the USAG JO Optional Program but wish to continue competing in gymnastics in a less demanding competitive environment.
- Athletes that do not fit into the USAG JO system.
The Prep Optional Gymnastics Program along with Prep Optional Competitions is sanctioned by USA Gymnastics. USA Gymnastics is the governing body of gymnastics in the United States. USA Gymnastics wanted to provide an alternative to the Junior Olympic Program (which requires a tremendous amount of time commitment) where gymnasts could continue their participation in gymnastics and have the opportunity to compete, yet with limited time commitment in the gym.
There are five levels of PREP OP competition for NY State; Rookie, Novice, Intermediate, Advanced and Superior. NY State adheres to MASS PO rules. All competing athletes must be USAG Athletic Members. Gymnasts will be evaluated and placed in a level where they will be successful. Form, technique & execution will be strongly evaluated.
